Hot on the heels of her latest release, Balas y Chocolate, Lila Downs will perform at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre on Saturday, September 19 at 8pm.
Instantly certified gold in Mexico upon its release, the outspoken new album from GRAMMY Award-winning Lila is a fierce condemnation of violence and corruption - spotlighting concerns over the erosion of civil rights and justice, the still escalating threats to the country’s journalists, the excess in modern life, lost love and more. The album’s title track (Bullets & Chocolate), is dedicated to immigrant children who migrate across borders along the continent’s Cacao Route, while the first single and very powerful video “La Patria Madrina” – featuring JUANES, has been hailed as: “A song of hope for Mexico and Latin America.”
Lila has one of the world’s most singular voices and innovative approaches to music. Her music and vocal artistry have many influences and is as varied as the ancient cultures that serve as her inspiration. Lila’s compositions are often striking commentaries on social conditions, reflecting migration and the search for roots as a core human need. She makes an important and deep connection with her fans, who are of all ages, races, and backgrounds. "I am very fortunate," said Downs. "People who follow our music
belong to all walks of life. Every day we connect with them.”
